The over doing in some societies has reached a crescendo.  How long can this extravagance of haste continue?  It isn't a surprise that this overdoing is translated into tense thinking and unnatural co-ordination.  It usually takes a major happening in an individual's life to make a shift.  If an understanding has arrived that change is necessary to improve your life, be very excited!  Alexander Technique teachers love helping individuals and groups who have reached a point of potential for change, to gain new skills!

Children's books

Feedback from a former student who is a primary school teacher seems to indicate that my children's books fit with the school environment. This feedback is from a man who has experienced many Alexander lessons.  He would have the ideal approach combining his school teaching expertise with his Alexander knowledge.  He agrees that the Alexander Technique would be beneficial within the school system.  In an ideal world there would be an elective subject on "the use of the self" as part of the school teacher's curriculum.  How does one introduce a set of children's books into such a huge educational system?  Donate to campus libraries? Teach on campus to reach the students?  Tossing ideas around right now.

Space

Space is all around.  Remembering the space behind us is very useful.  Most of the time the attention is towards the front, looking in the mirror, working at a desk or computer, cooking, conversation with others, walking towards something, playing sport etc  Balancing the attention towards the front with the thought of the space behind is one way of encouraging integration and balance through the system and helps bring the sixth sense into play.

Small children practice

For a few years most small children seem to have a wonderful coordination brought about from lots of practice crawling, moving up and down, squatting and balancing on their feet.  Learning how the system of the body works as a complete unit. There is a wonderful openness about the way they proceed.  A looking around in wonder, joy and curiosity.
